Census Forms Arriving Mid-March – Be Counted!
The U.S. Census Bureau is mailing census forms to all residents in mid-March. Residents will have until Mid-April to complete and return the form. Completing the form is easy, safe and important!
Easy - The 2010 Census has only 10 Questions.  Information about everyone who lives at a residence should be included on the completed Census form.
Safe - Per Title 13 of the United States Code, the U.S. Census Bureau is not allowed to share an individual's response with anyone, including other federal agencies or law enforcement entities.
Important - Census data determines boundaries for state and local legislative and congressional districts.  Also, Census data determines how $400 billion in federal funding (for schools, roads, senior centers and libraries - to name a few examples) is allocated to communities.  Every person is worth an average of $1000 to their community in federal funding if they are counted in the Census.

Site Council
Parent Representative Nominations
Site Council is composed of faculty, school personnel, parents and/or community members. It is a committee blending site based management and a shared decision-making process providing input on curricular and instructional strategies that meet the unique learning needs of the students served at school. Site Council meets once a month.

The 2010-11 Site Council is seeking nominations to fill three parent representative positions:

The following positions are two year terms:
* a representative for the Kindergarten/Grade 1 levels (must have an incoming Kindergarten student in 2010)
* a representative for the Parent at Large position (must have a student who will be at DCES for their two year commitment)

The following position is a one year term:
* a representative for the Grade 2/3 levels. Our current parent representative is leaving at the end of 09-10 school year which creates a one year vacancy for the 2010-11 school year (nominee must have a student entering Grade 3 in the 2010-11 year).

These positions must be nominated by a current PTO board member(contact PTO President, Jenny Dorsch @ jendorsch@aol.com for board member information) or a current Site Council parent representative (Dennis Alonso, Christine Babey or Brenda McLaughlin).

Nomination forms are available from the DCES office beginning Monday, March 15 and must be returned by Friday, March 26, 2010. Voting will take place at the April Site Council meeting.

Get the Facts!
Governor Jan Brewer has proposed a temporary sales tax increase to help close current budget shortfalls. This measure will be on the May 18 special election ballot. The House approved a Senate-passed resolution to refer the one-cent, three-year sales tax increase to voters. The one cent sales tax increase measure would increase the current rate of 5.6 percent to 6.6 percent for three years and raise an estimated $2.9 billion to help close Arizona's budget deficit.
See SUSD's Fact Sheet here or view their webpage on this important issue.

The focus group will help develop new vision and mission statements for SUSD. The information will be analyzed by the Governing Board and District administration. These statements will provide the framework for future planning efforts and guide the Board in its decision making.
