The 2010-11 school year will commence on August 9th. It’s important that children are in school, because learning begins on the very first day of instruction. Scottsdale Unified teachers come to class each day prepared to teach all students, and these lessons are learned best when children are in class! Remember 08-09-10 – Learning Is Fun! Be Here On Day One!

Welcome to the 2010-11 school year!
DCES is continuing our communication efforts to GO GREEN! We encourage you to frequently browse our website to check on  the latest happenings at DCES and SUSD. A few things to help get you started this year:

• The 2010-11 SUSD calendar is now posted online. Please view the About Us link at the top of this webpage and click on Calendars. (Note that this calendar has recently been revised and includes tentative early release dates)
• DCES Bus Routes are now posted online. Please view the Parents link at the top of this webpage and click on Bus Routes. (Please check this frequently for any updates from our Transportation Department)
• SUSD breakfast and lunch menus are now posted online. Please view the Parents link at the top of this webpage and click on Lunch Menus.

The DCES PTO website is also a valuable resource for our families. Please view the link Our Community at the left hand side of this webpage and click on PTO to see what's happening with our PTO this year.  Please take a moment to sign The PTO handles all communications electronically offering We are proud to announce that the DCES PTO has “gone green,” and now handles all communications electronically!  They offer a weekly “Friday Folder” of hot news and “flyer” information from those vendors that may be of interest to our parents, along with a more comprehensive “Pawprint” newsletter that is issued the last Friday of the month throughout the school year.

The Year End Letter from Mrs. Norton and Mr. Rantala

Our first letter of the 2009-10 school year introduced DCES’ philosophy that we are ‘A Community of Learners’. Whether it be our teaching community, our student learners, or our parents we want to take this opportunity and thank everyone for contributing to another successful year at DCES. SUSD Summer Math Student Work Packet

For students entering 6th grade Mathematics

With new textbooks and new Common Core Math Standards on the way, our students will need to be thinking and applying math at higher levels. In order to prepare our middle school students for success with higher standards, it is important that we provide support. Click on this summer work packet  SUSD Summer Math Student Work Packet which is available for all students currently finishing the 5th grade mathematics curriculum to ease the transition to 6th grade. The packet includes brief explanations, sample problems and practice problems. Nothing is expected to be totally new concepts, just extended.

Please bring the completed packet to school on the 2nd day of classes, Tuesday, August 10th, 2010. Any math that was troublesome for a student, will be addressed during the first week of school.
