H1N1 Clinics Week of November 9th

Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) has been collaborating with Scottsdale Healthcare to offer after-school H1N1 clinics for our students. SUSD has planned the after-school H1N1 clinics for the week of November 9. All SUSD students (ages 4-18) are eligible to participate in these clinics. Parent(s) and/or guardian(s) MUST accompany their child(ren) to the clinic. Please bring the consent form (below) with you to the clinic.| School Clinic Locations | en Español |

"Excelling School" for 2008-2009
Congratulations Cubs!! Desert Canyon Elementary was once again named an "Excelling School" for the 2008-2009 school year. It is the highest designation given to an elementary school.
OUR MISSION
Desert Canyon Elementary School provides a safe, caring, developmentally appropriate environment that enhances dignity and honors diversity while challenging all students to meet their intellectual and creative potential. All students are offered the highest academic challenge that is meaningful and relevant.
November Walk/Bike to School Event
DCES Families - it's time to once again get our community together to support our November Walk/Bike to School event -- Wednesday, November 18th!
We are so excited that this morning will also be the Can Food/Sock Drive Kick Off to help St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank and Shoe Box Ministries. Please join us and have your student bring a canned food item or a new package of socks to donate. What a great way to show school spirit by giving to others who will benefit from your generous donations.
Please make sure you choose a safe route & plan to walk/bike with family or friends. We look forward to seeing DCES smiling faces arriving on our campus between 7:50-8:10!
Students, Teachers, Paraeducators Honored at the 23rd Annual Scottsdale Mayor's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities
At the 23rd Annual Scottsdale Mayor's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities, DCES' Mrs. Shelley Spain was honored as the Elementary School Paraeducator of the Year.
Mrs. Spain, a long time paraeducator at DCES, resident of McDowell Mountain Ranch and former DCES parent, has offered so much to the Desert Canyon community over the years. We are pleased that her contributions have been recognized by the Mayor's Committee and that she was honored at a ceremony held at the Chaparral Suites Resorts on October 22. Thank you Mrs. Spain for all you do for DCES!

It’s never too early to make a donation that can be claimed when you file your 2009 State tax return.Did you know that Arizona law allows taxpayers to receive a tax credit of up to $200 for individual filers and up to $400 for married filers for donations made to SUSD schools? You can claim the tax credit when filing your 2009 Arizona State Income Tax return. The school must receive the funds by December 31, 2009. It’s a win, win situation for you and the school!

Kinder Round Up - January 28
Do you have a child that will begin Kindergarten in August 2010, or know a neighbor that will? If so, please mark your calendar for Thursday, January 28th, 6:00 pm, it's DCES' Kinder Round Up. The event, for parents only, is a great opportunity to hear about all Kindergarten at DCES.
No need to RSVP, just show up to the Desert Canyon Middle School Cafeteria at 6 pm on January 28th. (Enrollment packages will be available that evening or from the DCES office beginning January 29th)
