"Excelling School" for 2008-2009
Congratulations Cubs!! Desert Canyon Elementary was once again named an "Excelling School" for the 2008-2009 school year. It is the highest designation given to an elementary school.
OUR MISSION
Desert Canyon Elementary School provides a safe, caring, developmentally appropriate environment that enhances dignity and honors diversity while challenging all students to meet their intellectual and creative potential. All students are offered the highest academic challenge that is meaningful and relevant.
Community Members Needed for Strategic Planning Focus Group
Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) is enabling its stakeholders to participate in the District’s Strategic Planning Process by conducting focus groups at each school. The focus group will help develop new vision and mission statements for SUSD. The information will be analyzed by the Governing Board and District administration. These statements will provide the framework for future planning efforts and guide the Board in its decision making. If you are interested in participating in the Desert Canyon focus group on Thursday, January 14, 6-8 pm, please contact Wanda Tingley @ 480 484-1702 or wtingley@susd.org for more information.
TAX CREDIT PROGRAM
It’s never too early to make a donation that can be claimed when you file your 2009 State tax return.Did you know that Arizona law allows taxpayers to receive a tax credit of up to $200 for individual filers and up to $400 for married filers for donations made to SUSD schools? You can claim the tax credit when filing your 2009 Arizona State Income Tax return. The school must receive the funds by December 31, 2009. It’s a win, win situation for you and the school!
Your tax credit donation is used for:
• Tutoring
• Field trips
• Overnight trips
• Athletic programs
• Field trips

Online Payments for Tax Credit Donations
Payments can be made by going to the SUSD web site or the following URL https://touchbase.susd.org/touchbase/. Parents can log in by entering their student’s ID number for the log in and last name for the password; community members can enter as a guest. To make a donation click on School Shop in the top menu and select the school and the program you wish to donate to; then add that product to your cart and enter in the amount you wish to donate. There are also comment fields so donations can be given to specific students if paying for a particular trip or activity. Also, please note there is NO fee for tax credit donations/payments made on line. This is a great way for parents and community members to make their tax credit donations!

Kinder Round Up - January 28
Do you have a child that will begin Kindergarten in August 2010, or know a neighbor that will? If so, please mark your calendar for Thursday, January 28th, 6:00 pm, it's DCES' Kinder Round Up. The event, for parents only, is a great opportunity to hear about all Kindergarten at DCES.
No need to RSVP, just show up to the Desert Canyon Middle School Cafeteria at 6 pm on January 28th. (Enrollment packages will be available that evening or from the DCES office beginning January 29th)
